At a vote, seven of the eight members voted against the budget, and only the chairman was in favour.
Of the nine members in the PS, seven are from the UPFA while two are from the UNP.
For the second time, the UPFA-admnistered Embilipitiya PS budget was defeated, six votes to seven.The PS has nine UPFA and five opposition members from the UNP and the JVP. At today’s vote, one UPFA member was absent and two others opposed.
Former chairman of the PS Dayananda Weerasinghe was not present, and opposition leader alleged he was to be arrested over a financial fraud committed some time ago. Weerasinghe opposed the budget when it was first presented.
Defeat for Imbulpe PS
The budget of Imbulpe PS was defeated by a four-vote majority, with eight members opposing and four members supporting. The PS has nine UPFA and four UNP members.
Opposition leader Lasantha Cooray, along with three UPFA members, voted in support of the budget, while six UPFA and two UNP members opposed it. There was one opposition absentee. UPFA member Srilal Senarath said they opposed the budget due to the irregularities and the improper conduct of the chairman.
When the budget was presented on Novembet 28, ten members, including Cooray, expressed views opposing it while the chairman and only two UPFA members praised it.
Without taking a vote on that day, the chairman put it off for today.
